Popular Culture
Pop culture has had a certain amount of influence on the types of decisions that I have made throughout my life. I never was really the type of person to be into fashion and what was the current style going on at that time. By doing this I could see myself being labeled and judge because of my actions and also being added to a group of people who also see things the way I see them. In a way pop culture labels and categorizes people into particular groups that it feels that person belongs. While in school I didn’t hang with the certain groups because of how they acted and what they said. This was my choice not to because I didn’t like the fact that they were saying that material things could buy you friends. Pop culture played a part in this because that was the image given on television. I listen to songs that I like not the songs that I’m supposed to listen to because of the type of group that I’m in or associated with. My clothing does not look the same as what pop culture says it should and that’s because I have my own taste in what I like to wear whether it is part of the current fashion trend or not. I try not to let pop culture have that much influence on me and the decisions that I make in life because I have a different taste on the things that I want and what I do than what pop culture suggests.

you made a very good pointas well. you like what you like b/c YOU like it. not b/c of pop culture or the media. you make your own decisions and stick with them. i like my style and music b/c it has caught my interest, not b/c im supposed to. althuogh i was never into what is "in" or the materialistic fashion world either, i am ironically going into fashion design to make my own style which may eventually become some sort of pop culture. so good job and dont follow the grain.
The problem lies in the fact that unless completely secluded from the media and the "outside world" one can't completely be uninfluenced by it. I'm sure in some way you're influenced by pop culture. I do think you make good points, and it is essential to be yourself and not comply with everything pop culture is screaming at you.
